No, the cat garden does not grow cats, it grows catmints.  These are relatives of the common catnip, but are generally tidier, prettier, longer-blooming, and do not attract cats as well.  They are grown for their lacy leaves and lovely fragrance.  Most of their upright stems hold blue blooms, but a few are white or pink.  They are workhorses in the garden, providing interest over a long period and tidy foliage the entire growing season.  Often, they are planted under rose bushes, to repel bugs and hide ugly “knees”.  They like good drainage, so we’ve put them in raised beds, with a Cat Birdhouse in the center!
