Lavender Update! Print E-mail

This year's weather has produced an accelerated pace for the lavender field.  Varieties that normally begin blooming the fourth week of June began opening the last week of May--a month ahead of time!  For those who want to experience the color and fragrance of certain lavenders, I'll be updating the status here every few days.

Here are the lavenders (Lavendula angustifolias) that are already fading or harvested: Victorian Amethyst, Croxton's Wild, Thumbelina Leigh, Peter Pan, Little Lottie, Tucker's Early, Miss Katherine, Folgate, Sachet, Blue Cushion, Cedar Blue, Melissa, Premier, Betty's Blue, Royal Velvet, Pastor's Pride, Dwarf White; Bowles Early; Buena Vista, Cedar Blue, De Lavande; Folgate; Ashdown Forest; Gray Lady; Hidcote; Munstead; Imperial Gem; Sarah

These lavenders are in full bloom:  Hidcote Select, Purple Bouquet, Baby Blue, Violet Intrigue, Loddon Pink, Richard Gray; Coconut Ice, Blue Scent, Blue River, Fione English, Fring Favorite; Joan Head; Maillette; Nana Atropurpurea; Pacific Pink; Potpourri White; Rois Bleu; Skylark; Wyckoff; Vincenza Blue

These lavenders are just beginning to show good bud color:  Royal Purple,  Old English, Lullingstone Castle; Seal 7 Oaks; and all of the lavandins!

We have begun the harvest, and U-Pick is underway.
